KSGFOA Conference 2021

The Kansas Government Finance Officers Association is pleased to present a series of workshops for those involved in the financial affairs of municipalities, counties, schools, state agencies, utilities, and special authorities. The 22nd annual conference will be Oct. 6-8, 2021 in Olathe, Kansas. Visit the conference website for more information.

The conference keynote speaker will be Nick Kittle, author of the best-selling local government book “Sustainovation: Building Sustainable Innovation in Government, One Wildly Creative Idea at a Time.”

Call for Presentations

You are invited to submit topic and speaker ideas or a presentation proposal for the conference. Proposals should include presentations on relevant topics for public finance professionals and consultants serving local and state governments across Kansas.

Conference Scholarships

If you are not a member of KSGFOA or are a member who has never had the opportunity to attend the Annual Professional Conference, you can apply for a scholarship. The Board will sponsor up to 5 individuals. The scholarship for non-members will include a one-year KSGFOA membership and for members includes the conference registration.  Applicants conference registration fees will be refunded if they are selected for scholarship.

Lifetime Achievement Award

The purpose of the Lifetime Achievement Award is to recognize an individual’s achievements in outstanding leadership in public finance over the course of their career.

    Innovation Award

    The innovation award is designed to recognize and promote creative public finance initiatives and projects that provide innovative and creative solutions to address organizational and community challenges. Winners are those who reflect dedication and inventiveness in public finance and governance to deliver excellence in public services. Initiatives and projects should have occurred within the last two years. Applications are due August 27.

      Accounting Academy

      Accountants and auditors in the public sector face the challenge of familiarizing themselves with the highly specialized rules, guidelines, and practices applicable to state and local governments. The GFOA Accounting Academy is an intensive workshop that combines lecture, discussion, and exercise for an overview of governmental accounting, auditing, and financial reporting.

      Public finance professionals who are new to the field or looking to refine their skills in governmental accounting. Attendees will receive 32+ continuing professional education (CPE) hours.

      Budget Workshop

      The budget workshop is new in 2021 and will be offered as a one-day pre-conference session at the annual conference. Future workshops will be offered every other year, opposite of the Accounting Academy.

      Certified Public Finance Officers Program

      The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) provides the Certified Public Finance Officers (CPFO) program to verify knowledge in the disciplines of government finance. The program began in 1997 with a format that included five exams covering different disciplines of public finance. Changes to the program were introduced in 2020 with the goal of making it more accessible.
